Min Kyung-sun, preliminary candidate for Goyang mayor from the Democratic Party of Korea, called for an investigation into allegations of prosecutorial misconduct, citing a recording of former Ssangbangwool Group Chairman Kim Sung-tae.
In a statement released on the 8th, Min claimed that "the released recording supports public suspicions that prosecutors predetermined 'elimination of political opponents' as their conclusion and attempted to fabricate the case accordingly." He characterized this as a serious incident undermining democracy and the rule of law, demanding the withdrawal of indictments.
The recently disclosed recording of former Chairman Kim from detention reportedly contains statements including "Am I a bank vault? I can only hand over what I have" and "If you want me to say Lee Jae-myung gave me money, I would if I could."
Min interpreted this as evidence suggesting prosecutors pressured Kim to make false statements.
"The era of political prosecutors obsessed with eliminating political opponents by any means necessary must end," Min said. "I will stand with the fight for prosecutorial reform to the end."
Min previously faced two employment disapprovals and dismissal demands from the Yoon Suk-yeol administration during his tenure as president of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation. He filed administrative lawsuits and ultimately won. During his term, he turned the corporation from capital impairment to profitability and achieved youth employment rates more than four times the national average. Min currently serves as vice chairman of the Democratic Party's Policy Committee.
