ULSAN — The city of Ulsan announced Sunday it will launch a fire prevention support program for electric vehicle charging facilities in apartment complexes in 2026, aimed at alleviating residents' safety concerns over EV fires in underground parking garages.
The program will cover costs for relocating EV charging stations from underground parking areas to ground level. It was designed to prevent EV fires and create safer residential environments.
Apartment complexes currently operating EV chargers in underground parking facilities are eligible to apply. Selected complexes will receive subsidies covering 70% of total project costs within designated caps based on unit count, with residents responsible for the remaining 30%.
Subsidy caps are set at 20 million won for complexes with 101 to 500 units, 30 million won for 501 to 1,000 units, and 50 million won for complexes exceeding 1,000 units.
Where ground-level relocation is feasible, the program will fund relocation costs. For complexes where relocation is not possible, subsidies will cover installation of underground safety equipment including thermal imaging CCTV cameras, fire suppression blankets, and underbody water spray nozzles.
Interested apartment complexes may submit applications with required documents to the Ulsan City Hall's Architectural Policy Division in person or by registered mail from April 1 through May 29. Final recipients will be selected in June following document review and evaluation committee assessment.
"We expect this program will enhance the safety of EV charging facilities in apartment complexes and help create an environment where residents can live with greater peace of mind," a city official said.
