Siheung City announced Wednesday that it signed the main construction contract for the Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital (tentative name) through the Public Procurement Service on Tuesday.
The contract was executed between the Public Procurement Service and a consortium led by Hyundai Engineering & Construction. The agreement establishes an integrated management system for the entire hospital construction project.
The hospital project is being pursued through a design-build bidding method. Following the preliminary construction contract in December 2024, groundwork including earthwork and temporary construction began on August 18, 2025. The main construction contract covering the entire project was signed upon completion of the detailed design.
The Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital represents a total project cost of approximately 587.2 billion won ($427 million). The facility will be built within Seoul National University's Siheung Campus with a gross floor area of 112,896 square meters and 800 beds. As a comprehensive hospital integrating medical care and research with 27 clinical departments and six specialized treatment centers, it will serve as a public healthcare hub filling medical gaps in the West Coast region and southwestern Seoul metropolitan area for cancer, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, pediatrics, emergency care, and infectious diseases.
Based on the national university hospital system, the facility will strengthen treatment capabilities for severe and emergency patients as an "essential public healthcare hub" and serve as a central pillar of the region's self-sufficient medical system. The hospital will train medical personnel in connection with Seoul National University Hospital's residency programs and create a medical environment combining education and clinical research.
The hospital will also be developed as an "AI advanced medical demonstration hub" linked to Seoul National University's Siheung AI Campus. By establishing a demonstration environment that applies AI-based diagnostic and treatment technologies and medical data analysis research to actual clinical settings, the facility will create a structure where research outcomes lead to medical innovation. Through this, the city plans to implement a future-oriented hospital model integrating digital healthcare, precision medicine, and data-driven research.
The Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital will serve as a core facility of the "Gyeonggi Siheung Bio Specialized Complex," designated as a national high-tech strategic industry, establishing a foundation linking medical research and the bio industry. The hospital is expected to contribute to creating an industry-academia-research-hospital collaborative ecosystem connecting bio research in medical devices and new drug development with clinical research.
Siheung Mayor Lim Byung-taek said, "This main construction contract signifies that the Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital, a long-cherished project for Siheung citizens, has entered full-scale implementation." He added, "We will develop the hospital as both an essential public healthcare hub and an AI advanced medical demonstration hub to protect citizens' lives and health, and establish a foundation for the city to leap forward as a place where healthcare and the bio industry grow together."
