Yeoncheon County in Gyeonggi Province is partnering with aerospace and artificial intelligence specialist Hancom InSpace to build a satellite data-based disaster safety administrative system.
The county announced on the 4th that it signed a business agreement with Hancom InSpace for "Yeoncheon-type artificial satellite and AI strategy planning." The agreement was established to develop the county's AI-based future vision and jointly respond to public contests such as the Gyeonggi Province AI Challenge.
As their first project, both parties will participate in the Gyeonggi Province-hosted "AI Challenge" competition. The theme is "Building a disaster safety administrative platform for ground displacement detection based on artificial satellite data." The core objective is to transform existing manpower-centered facility inspections into satellite and AI technology-based systems.
Hancom InSpace successfully launched and established communication with its self-developed satellite "Sejong-4" aboard the fourth launch of Korea's Nuri rocket last year. The company possesses proprietary technology spanning from satellite system design to operation.
Through the agreement, both parties will cooperate on AI strategy development consulting for Yeoncheon County and joint responses to central and regional government AI public contests. The county plans to use this project as a foundation for establishing itself as an AI demonstration city and attracting high-tech companies.
A Yeoncheon County official said, "We aim to not only achieve final selection in the AI Challenge but also use this as a starting point for expansion into large-scale national projects."
