SUWON -- The city of Suwon announced Thursday that 3,049 households applied for this year's Saebit House program, which subsidizes home repairs for aging low-rise residential buildings.
The program provides financial support for essential repairs including waterproofing, insulation, windows, and electrical systems. Eligible properties include single-family homes, multi-family units, and row houses of four stories or fewer that received occupancy approval more than 20 years ago.
Applications rose by 82 households from 2,967 last year. Gwonseon District led with 1,260 applications, followed by Jangan District with 984, Paldal District with 554, and Yeongtong District with 251. By housing type, 1,096 applications came from single-family homes, 786 from private sections of multi-unit housing, and 1,167 from common areas of multi-unit housing.
A total of 44 households with priority status applied, including independence movement veterans and Korean War veterans who receive additional points in the selection process.
The city will finalize recipients on April 24 following a two-stage evaluation process consisting of document review and on-site inspection. Selected households will proceed with renovation work from May through September, receiving subsidies of up to 12 million won covering 90% of total construction costs, with homeowners responsible for the remaining 10%.
"Strong public interest in Saebit House continues to drive increasing applications," a Suwon city official said. "We will continue pursuing urban regeneration that residents can tangibly experience by improving living conditions in aging low-rise housing."
