A woman in her 20s arrested in connection with a series of motel murders in northern Seoul has been diagnosed as a psychopath, police said.
The Seoul Gangbuk Police Station announced on the 4th that the suspect, identified only by her surname Kim, was determined to be a psychopath based on the Psychopathy Checklist-Revised (PCL-R) assessment. Police said they forwarded the results to prosecutors the same day.
Kim is accused of killing a man in his 20s, identified as B, by giving him a drug-laced beverage at a motel in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu on the 9th of last month. A motel employee discovered B's body the following afternoon and reported it to police. Officers analyzed closed-circuit television footage and arrested Kim at approximately 9 p.m. that same day.
Police are investigating whether Kim is also responsible for the death of another man found at a different motel in Gangbuk-gu late last month, as well as an assault case from December last year. Investigators expect the number of victims to rise as additional evidence of related crimes continues to emerge.
