The Incheon Social Service Agency announced Wednesday that it completed web vulnerability assessments of public institutions in collaboration with the National Intelligence Service's Incheon branch, Incheon Metropolitan City, and local universities. The initiative is drawing attention as a government-academia cooperation model that provides hands-on experience to university students while addressing increasing cyberattacks.
The assessment was conducted under the "Incheon Metropolitan City Ordinance on Cybersecurity Management for Invested and Funded Institutions." The audit covered two organizations: the Incheon Social Service Agency and the Incheon Foundation for Arts and Culture. The NIS Incheon branch, the city's Information Technology Division, and faculty and students from Inha University and Incheon National University participated in the assessment from January through February.
The inspection employed simulated hacking methods using actual hacking techniques. Seven students from hacking clubs led by Professor Kwon Hyun-soo of Inha University's Department of Computer Engineering and Professor Lee Seung-soo of Incheon National University's Department of Computer Engineering directly identified security threats. A performance review meeting was held at Incheon National University on February 27 to share the assessment results.
The Incheon Social Service Agency will prioritize remediation of high-risk vulnerabilities this month. The agency plans to strengthen security system configurations within the first half of the year and conduct regular annual assessments.
