Hanam City, Gyeonggi Province, presented a certificate of appreciation to short track speed skater Shim Suk-hee, gold medalist at the 2026 Milan-Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics, during its March monthly meeting held at the city annex auditorium on the morning of the 4th.
Shim, a Hanam resident, won gold in the women's 3,000-meter short track relay at the Games. She set a historic record by winning gold in the same event at three consecutive Olympics, following Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018.
"I thank the citizens of Hanam for the warm welcome," Shim said. "I will continue to work hard as a proud citizen of Hanam."
Hanam Mayor Lee Hyun-jae said, "Her perseverance and passion from Sochi to Pyeongchang and now Milan have brought great inspiration and pride to our 330,000 citizens. I sincerely thank her for elevating the status of our city."
The meeting also included legal training on handling unusual civil complaints. Attorney Lee Jong-kwan of law firm Logos shared practical response measures applicable to field situations.
"We will strengthen city-level protections so that employees doing their jobs legitimately are not treated unfairly," Mayor Lee said. "We will foster a healthy organizational culture where staff are respected for their work and can focus on their duties safely."
