Gyeongsan city in North Gyeongsang Province announced on the 3rd that it has signed a cooperation agreement with Pegasus Tech Ventures and Gyeongsan Innovation Academy to host the Startup World Cup Korea qualifiers.
Under the agreement, the Korea qualifiers for the Startup World Cup, the world's largest startup competition, will be held at Yeungnam University's Chunma Arts Center in Gyeongsan on July 15.
Pegasus Tech Ventures is a Silicon Valley-based global venture capital firm founded in 2011 by Anis Uzzaman, an engineer-turned-venture capitalist.
The firm operates the Startup World Cup, an innovative entrepreneurship platform, and is working to expand the global startup ecosystem.
The three organizations will collaborate on planning, promotion, and execution of the Startup World Cup; discovering and supporting promising local startups; and connecting them to Pegasus's corporate partners and investor networks.
Gyeongsan Mayor Cho Hyun-il said, "This agreement marks an important turning point for Gyeongsan's businesses and startup ecosystem to expand globally," adding, "We will actively support Gyeongsan to establish itself as a central city in the global startup ecosystem."
