
A wildfire broke out near Moranbong peak on Deureum Mountain in Palmi-ri, Sindong-myeon, Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, at approximately 6:54 p.m. on the 27th, prompting firefighting and forestry authorities to launch suppression efforts.
Forestry authorities have deployed 21 pieces of equipment, including fire trucks, and 81 personnel to combat the blaze. Helicopters could not be deployed as the fire started after sunset. Fire authorities issued a Level 1 fire response at 8 p.m. due to concerns about the fire spreading.
The fire is currently 40% contained. West-northwest winds of 0.4 meters per second are blowing at the scene, with humidity at 65%.
Chuncheon city issued an emergency alert at 7:23 p.m., stating, "A wildfire broke out on Deureum Mountain at 6:54 p.m.," and urged "nearby residents and hikers to refrain from entering the mountain and to exercise caution for safety."
Authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and assess the specific area of damage once the blaze is brought under control.
