A forensic examination has found no mechanical defects in the city bus that plowed onto a sidewalk at Seodaemun Station intersection in Seoul last month, adding weight to the possibility of driver error.
According to a Seoul Economic Daily report on the 27th, the Seodaemun Police Station recently received the examination results from the National Forensic Service (NFS).
On October 16, a No. 704 city bus veered onto the sidewalk at the Seodaemun Station intersection in Seodaemun District. The accident injured 13 people, including pedestrians. The bus driver, a man in his 50s identified as Mr. A, was also injured.
Police have been investigating Mr. A on charges of causing injury under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents. During police questioning, Mr. A reportedly stated that "the brakes did not work" at the time of the accident.
Police plan to conclude their investigation by combining the NFS examination results with witness statements and other evidence before deciding whether to refer the case to prosecutors.
