Seongnam City's Pangyo Library has won the prestigious Korean Library Award, the nation's highest honor for libraries.
According to Seongnam City on the 27th, Pangyo Library was selected as the recipient of the institutional award at the 58th Korean Library Awards, hosted by the Korean Library Association. The library received a plaque and certificate at a recent ceremony held at Seoul City Hall's multipurpose hall.
The Korean Library Association evaluated 47 participating libraries from among 1,683 national, public, and university libraries nationwide before selecting Pangyo Library as the winner.
The library received high marks for its reading, education, and social contribution programs tailored to local community characteristics.
Specifically, the library was praised for several initiatives: the "Book Bundle Experience Education Sharing Service," which delivers 200 to 300 books to kindergartens and public daycare centers for read-aloud sessions; "Reading Together Online," an online reading program accessible without time or location constraints; and "Sound Sharing," which donates audio recordings of books read by participants who completed narration training to libraries for the visually impaired.
The library also drew attention for its lifecycle-based reading and cultural programs, including cultural classes for adults and elementary students, as well as vacation special lectures and reading classes for elementary students.
"We will continue to provide future-oriented library services that bring us closer to citizens in step with the changing information environment," a Seongnam City official said.
