South Jeolla Province is concentrating administrative resources to establish 500 "Solar Income Villages" by 2030, creating 100 annually. The province convened with 22 cities and counties to proactively respond to government energy policy and review energy initiatives including the solar village program.
According to South Jeolla Province on the 27th, the "Province-City/County Energy Policy Meeting" was held the previous day at Mokpo National University's Namak Campus. Approximately 100 attendees participated, including Yoo Hyun-ho, Director General of the Energy Industry Bureau, and energy department heads from 22 municipalities.
The meeting was organized to review provincial energy issues and establish close cooperation among local governments. It aligns with the government's policy goals of deploying 100GW of renewable energy and creating 2,500 Solar Income Villages nationwide by 2030.
The session was divided into two parts. The first focused on the province's core initiative, Solar Income Villages, with detailed discussions on implementation strategies and site identification progress across all 22 municipalities.
South Jeolla Province plans to leverage its superior renewable energy supply capacity to attract large-scale businesses and revitalize the regional economy. This strategy capitalizes on favorable conditions including the recent introduction of regional differential pricing for industrial electricity rates.
"With the easing of renewable energy setback regulations and introduction of regional differential electricity pricing, an excellent opportunity has arrived to accelerate corporate attraction using Jeonnam's strength in renewable energy supply," said Yoo Hyun-ho, Director General of the Energy Industry Bureau. "The province and municipalities will unite as an organic 'one team' to achieve the 500 Solar Income Villages goal ahead of schedule and successfully realize 'Y4nomics,' the great industrial revival of Jeonnam and Gwangju."
