Independent lawmaker Kim Byung-ki, who faces 13 allegations including bribery, appeared at police headquarters for a second consecutive day on January 27.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crime Investigation Unit began its second round of suspect questioning at 10 a.m. Kim returned approximately 10 hours after leaving the previous day's intensive interrogation session at around 11:30 p.m.
Arriving at the Mapo office building at 9:55 a.m., Kim told reporters, "I will continue to cooperate sincerely with the investigation, and I will arrange an opportunity to speak separately when the time comes."
When asked which matters he planned to address, Kim replied, "I think I'll know once the questioning begins."
Kim is accused of orchestrating his second son's irregular transfer admission to Soongsil University and soliciting employment for him at cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb, after which he allegedly conducted legislative activities favorable to the company. Additional allegations include suppressing a police investigation into his spouse's misuse of a corporate credit card and receiving illegal funds from former Dongjak District council members ahead of the general election.
During the previous day's 14-and-a-half-hour interrogation, Kim reportedly denied some of the charges. Before that session, he had emphasized to reporters, "I will completely clear up all suspicions and smears, and I will definitely restore my honor."
Police plan to review how to proceed with Kim's case following the conclusion of questioning.
