Anseong Mayor Kim Bo-ra said on January 27 that the city will make every effort to establish the Dongsin Semiconductor Materials, Parts, and Equipment Specialized Complex as a central hub of the K-Semiconductor Belt.
Mayor Kim held a press briefing at Anseong City Hall with National Assembly Member Yoon Jong-gun of the Democratic Party of Korea regarding the release of agricultural promotion zones for the Dongsin complex.
"The Dongsin Semiconductor Specialized Complex will become essential infrastructure serving as a core pillar of the national semiconductor strategy, beyond just regional significance," Kim said.
The release of agricultural promotion zones had been the biggest obstacle to developing the Dongsin complex. However, the project is expected to move forward in earnest after the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs recently completed farmland conversion consultations with conditional approval.
The 116,000-square-meter Dongsin Semiconductor Specialized Complex is a large-scale national project implemented by the Korea Industrial Complex Corporation with a total investment of 674.7 billion won. The project is expected to generate 2.4 trillion won in production inducement effects and create approximately 16,000 jobs. Completion is targeted for 2032.
"Since the complex was designated in July 2023, Anseong faced difficulties including rejection by the Gyeonggi Province deliberation committee," Kim said. "Through continuous supplementation and consultation, we passed the Gyeonggi Province re-deliberation and the Ministry of Agriculture's Farmland Management Committee final review, completing the farmland conversion consultation."
"The government recognizes the importance of strengthening semiconductor industry competitiveness and achieving self-reliance in materials, parts, and equipment supply chains with the advent of the AI era," Yoon said. "Since releasing the agricultural promotion zone was the key procedure to opening the door to Dongsin Industrial Complex, I continuously met with government officials to repeatedly request expedited project implementation and did my utmost to ensure this consultation was completed smoothly."
An Anseong city official said the city will re-establish the industrial complex plan in March, then complete remaining procedures including Gyeonggi Province integrated deliberation and final approval notification to develop the Dongsin complex as a core hub of Korea's semiconductor materials, parts, and equipment industry.
