Seoul's Mapo District ranked first among the capital's 25 autonomous districts in the 2025 Seoul Survey happiness index, the district government announced on the 26th.
The Seoul Survey happiness index is a comprehensive measure evaluating individuals' health status, finances, family and friend relationships, and social life. Mapo District recorded the highest scores across all categories, with 7.54 points for health status, 7.17 points for relationships, and 7.04 points for social life. While the citywide average stood at 6.61 points, Mapo District scored 7.05 points, exceeding the average by 0.44 points.
In assessments of social fairness, Mapo District also ranked first in all four categories: employment opportunities (5.92 points), taxation and tax payment (6.07 points), regional balanced development (5.76 points), and distribution structure (5.88 points).
In the 2025 Community Survey recently released by the National Data Agency, Mapo District recorded the highest scores in both "life satisfaction" (7.85 points) and "previous day happiness" (7.40 points), maintaining its top position among autonomous districts for the second consecutive year.
The district government assessed that these outstanding results in residents' health, interpersonal relationships, and social life satisfaction reaffirmed its status as a "livable city."
Mapo District has been working to improve residents' quality of life through generation-specific employment policies, including job and startup support for youth and career-interrupted women, as well as the "Neighborhood Environmental Guards" senior employment program.
District Mayor Park Kang-soo stated, "There is no value more precious than residents' happiness," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure everyone feels pride and happiness simply from living in Mapo."
