Incheon's Yeonsu District is launching three new public bus routes to connect underserved areas in the Songdo district. Six electric mid-sized buses will begin regular service on March 3.
The district announced the plan and held an opening ceremony on January 26. The new routes are Yeonsu 1 (Incheon National University Station to Songdo Central Park), Yeonsu 2 (Yeonsu District Second Government Building to Technopark Station), and Yeonsu 3 (Technopark Station to Songdo Station). The district held public hearings starting in November last year to gather input from residents in transit-underserved areas. Routes were prioritized to connect areas with high commuting and school travel demand.
The district introduced a concentrated dispatch system during rush hours and school times, particularly for Songdo's 6th and 8th blocks, which previously lacked adequate public transit infrastructure.
The district invested approximately 2 billion won to acquire six eco-friendly electric mid-sized buses and build dedicated charging stations. Bus designs were selected through a resident preference survey.
Operating hours are 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. on weekdays. Fares match Incheon's branch line buses: 1,200 won for adults, 850 won for teenagers, and 500 won for children. Integrated transfers within the Seoul metropolitan area are available.
The district will conduct trial operations starting at 10 a.m. on January 27 for final route inspections and system optimization. Regular service begins at 6:30 a.m. on March 3.
"The public bus service is not just a new route but the first step in comprehensively guaranteeing residents' mobility rights," said Yeonsu District Mayor Lee Jae-ho. "We will carefully address even the smallest inconveniences for our residents."
