Gyeonggi Province announced on the 26th that it will launch a free vehicle inspection program targeting approximately 10,000 resident-owned vehicles in partnership with 22 cities and counties across the province.
The inspection covers engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid checks with top-ups; replacement of consumables including air conditioning filters, wipers, and light bulbs; and examination of steering, braking, and driving systems as well as battery and tire conditions. Professional maintenance consultation services will also be provided.
Residents can visit inspection sites held once or twice in each city or county.
Following a preliminary demand survey, 22 municipalities will participate: Suwon, Yongin, Hwaseong, Seongnam, Bucheon, Ansan, Pyeongtaek, Anyang, Gimpo, Gwangju, Gwangmyeong, Gunpo, Icheon, Anseong, Uiwang, Yangpyeong, Yeoju, Gwacheon, Namyangju, Paju, Pocheon, and Yeoncheon. Each municipality plans to flexibly operate schedules and methods according to local demand.
The total project budget of 400 million won will be split equally between the provincial government and participating local governments. The province plans to continuously accept applications from interested municipalities until the budget is exhausted to expand coverage.
"This is a policy aimed at strengthening the social safety net by preventing vehicle breakdowns and defects in advance," said Jeong Chan-woong, head of the Taxi and Transportation Division at Gyeonggi Province.
