Anseong City announced on the 26th that it will advance its "2026 first-half foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) mass vaccination" by approximately one month ahead of schedule, following consecutive FMD outbreaks at cattle farms in Ganghwa, Incheon and Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
Following the first domestic FMD cases of this year on January 31 (Ganghwa) and February 20 (Goyang), the city will conduct emergency mass vaccinations for cattle and goat farms through March 15.
The vaccination program targets a total of 92,329 animals across 1,297 farms, including 87,507 cattle, 4,653 goats, and other cloven-hoofed animals. A vaccination support team of 14 members—comprising 10 veterinarians including public veterinarians and 4 goat capture specialists—will provide vaccination services to all cattle and goat farms in the area.
The city also plans to supply FMD vaccines free of charge to small-scale cattle and goat farms, while providing 70% subsidies for vaccine purchase costs to commercial-scale farms (50 or more cattle, 1,000 or more pigs, or 300 or more goats) to ease the financial burden on farmers.
Additionally, the city has mobilized all 19 available quarantine vehicles for intensive disinfection of roads near livestock farms and major roads in border areas. Two washing and disinfection facilities located in Iljuk-myeon (63 Ilsaeng-ro) and Anseong 2-dong (362 Oksan-dong) are operating around the clock, with the quarantine response situation room also running 24 hours to respond swiftly to emergencies.
Meanwhile, Anseong City lifted movement restrictions on the 25th for farms within the quarantine zone established following the African Swine Fever (ASF) outbreak at a pig farm in Miyang-myeon on January 23.
