Gwanak District in Seoul has won the top prize for the second consecutive year in the Seoul Metropolitan Government's comprehensive food hygiene and policy evaluation.
The evaluation comprehensively assessed all 25 autonomous districts in Seoul on overall hygiene and policy matters, including food safety management infrastructure and food service establishment oversight. Gwanak District received consistently high scores across all categories.
The district has focused its administrative efforts on creating a hygienic and safe food environment for residents who dine out frequently. This year, the district implemented a "kitchen environment improvement project" targeting 29 small restaurants of 100 square meters or less among general food establishments, which received strong positive response.
With the 30 million won in project funding secured through this top award, the district plans to use the funds to improve food culture and enhance food hygiene standards, further strengthening the food safety net for residents.
"I deeply thank restaurant business owners who voluntarily comply with food hygiene requirements despite difficult business conditions such as the economic downturn," Gwanak District Mayor Park Jun-hee said. "We will continue to do our best to create a healthy dining environment where residents can eat out with peace of mind."
