Dongkuk Steel Group (460860.KS) announced Wednesday that it donated 100 million won ($74,000) in scholarship funds for children of fallen and injured police officers at a ceremony held at the National Police Agency headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
The steelmaker expanded its support program last year to include police officers, following its existing support for military personnel and firefighters, as part of efforts to express gratitude to uniformed public servants dedicated to public safety. Under the agreement, the group pledged to donate 100 million won annually for five years through 2028, totaling 500 million won.
The funds will be distributed as scholarships for children of fallen and injured police officers through Chamsuri Sarang, a foundation under the National Police Agency. This year, 50 recipients will receive the scholarships—25 children of fallen officers and 25 children of injured officers—with each receiving 2 million won.
Dongkuk Holdings Chief Strategy Officer Chung Soon-wook, National Police Agency Welfare Policy Officer Lee Yong-wook, and Police Welfare Support Team Leader Ha Joong-seok attended the ceremony.
"We are always grateful for the dedication of police officers who have quietly devoted themselves to the nation and its people," Chung said. "We are pleased to give back, even in a small way, and hope the scholarships will help recipients continue their studies with stability."
Dongkuk Steel Group has supported military personnel dedicated to national security for approximately 40 years since establishing partnerships with military units in 1984. The group has also provided educational support for children of firefighters since 2018, continuing its commitment to supporting uniformed public servants.
