NCSoft (036570.KS) has filed a criminal complaint against the operator of YouTube channel "Gem Changhyun" for allegedly spreading false information.
NCSoft submitted the complaint to Seoul Gangnam Police Station, accusing the channel operator of distributing false information. The company also filed a civil lawsuit with Seoul Central District Court seeking damages for defamation, insult, and business interference caused by the alleged spread of false information.
The YouTube channel Gem Changhyun has approximately 105,000 subscribers. The operator is also known to run "Changhyun Street Karaoke," a channel with about 2.34 million subscribers.
NCSoft determined that the Gem Changhyun operator posted and distributed content containing false and defamatory claims about "Aion 2." According to NCSoft, the operator made statements on his broadcast including "NCSoft only punishes free-to-play users," "They are selling macro programs bundled together," and "An NCSoft executive is a gold farming operation boss."
The company said it made this decision after reviewing the situation where false information produced by the Gem Changhyun operator had spread and caused damage to users, developers, and the company, following consultation with experts. "Criticism and feedback on corporate activities and services are natural, but when false information is intentionally and continuously spread, we have no choice but to take minimal measures to protect ourselves," an NCSoft official said.
"We plan to take action against repeated defamatory posts based on false information," an NCSoft official said.
Meanwhile, NCSoft filed criminal complaints on January 12 against five users who used illegal macro programs in Aion 2.
