Renowned pianist Lim Dong-hyuk, 41, was rescued by police and transported to a hospital after posting a concerning message on social media, authorities confirmed.
According to Seocho Police Station, officers received a report at around 8:30 a.m. on January 16 expressing concern about Lim's condition. Police were dispatched to a location in Seocho-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, where they rescued Lim.
Lim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition with no threat to his life.
Earlier the same day at 7:34 a.m., Lim had posted on Instagram, "Throughout my life as a performer, I have suffered from severe depression," adding, "I have been happy and grateful thanks to all of you." The post raised concerns among those around him.
Lim gained recognition by winning prizes at the world's three major piano competitions, including the Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Queen Elisabeth International Competitions. He is regarded as the first classical musician in Korea to build a mainstream fan following.
In September, Lim was sentenced to a fine of 1 million won in a first-instance trial after being charged with soliciting prostitution at a massage parlor in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, in 2020.
