Biosolution (086820.KQ) announced on the 15th that it will launch a full-scale knee joint regenerative treatment and specialized sports rehabilitation program using its autologous chondrocyte therapy "CartiLife" in partnership with Sejong Sports Orthopedic Clinic.
Sejong Sports Orthopedic Clinic, located in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, provides integrated sports medicine services encompassing treatment, rehabilitation, and return to daily activities under the philosophy of "healthy return to everyday life." The clinic applies the latest sports medicine to clinical practice through collaboration and research activities with sports organizations including the Korean Basketball League (KBL). Directors Cha Min-seok, Kim Jin-soo, and Geum Jeong-seop, who serve as team physicians for professional sports clubs and have extensive clinical experience in sports injuries and treatment, provide customized rehabilitation including movement mechanics analysis and musculoskeletal function assessment.
Biosolution views this partnership as significant in providing an integrated treatment model combining regenerative therapy and systematic rehabilitation for sports injury patients and active general patients. Sejong Sports Orthopedic Clinic, which has introduced "sports injury cartilage regeneration treatment" based on CartiLife, expanded its treatment scope due to the growing need for regenerative treatments that can provide sustained functional recovery when treating cartilage defects in patients with sports-related knee injuries.
"CartiLife induces hyaline cartilage formation based on the patient's own rib cartilage and is characterized by engraftment stability and the possibility of returning to activity," a Biosolution official said. "These characteristics can be applied to cartilage regeneration treatment for athletes in high-activity sports such as soccer, basketball, and running."
Sejong Sports Orthopedic Clinic has decided to develop this integrated treatment model into a "sports regenerative treatment hub" through its partnership with Biosolution. The initiatives include expanding CartiLife treatment cases, strengthening specialized programs for athletes and highly active patients, deepening recovery processes centered on the rehabilitation center, and promoting cartilage regeneration research and educational collaboration. The two organizations will also jointly develop treatment guidelines to contribute to the domestic sports cartilage regeneration treatment field and help patients return to exercise quickly and safely.
"Patients with high activity levels may have difficulty recovering with conventional treatments alone, so CartiLife can be considered as an alternative treatment for patients with cartilage defects," said Cha Min-seok, CEO of Sejong Sports Orthopedic Clinic. "We will focus on increasing the speed of knee function recovery and patient satisfaction by integrating regenerative treatment and rehabilitation management."
"Rehabilitation after CartiLife surgery is so important that it can determine the success or failure of treatment, so hospitals with rehabilitation systems are optimal partners," said Baek Jong-chun, Division Head at Biosolution. "Collaboration with hospitals equipped with specialized rehabilitation infrastructure like Sejong Sports Orthopedic Clinic will play an important role in increasing the overall success rate of cartilage regeneration treatment."
