A Chinese couple who gave birth to a blonde, blue-eyed daughter discovered through paternity testing that the baby's great-grandfather was Russian.
According to Hong Kong's South China Morning Post on Wednesday, the Chinese couple surnamed A gave birth to a daughter in May 2022. Seeing the baby's Western appearance, they suspected the hospital had made a mistake and switched babies, but multiple paternity tests confirmed she was their biological child.
During the investigation, A learned that his grandfather, who died early, was Russian. "Everyone born under my grandfather was male, and they all looked Chinese," A explained. "It seems the genetic traits did not manifest well in males."
The daughter's Western features became more pronounced as she grew. Around eight months old, her eyes turned a deeper blue, and by her first birthday, her blonde curly hair became more distinct. One relative remarked that "the baby looks a lot like her great-grandfather."
The story went viral on social media, garnering 120 million views. "Every time I take my daughter outside, I get asked the same questions," A said. "Sometimes I get tired of giving the same explanation, but I just hope my daughter grows up healthy and happy."
