Gunpo City announced Wednesday that its 2025 Children's Participation Committee, consisting of child members and university student mentors, has produced a children's rights storybook titled "The Lost Flames" after six months of collaboration, conveying messages of rights and respect from a child's perspective.
The storybook was planned as part of the 4th Children's Participation Committee activities, organized by the Gunpo Child Protection Agency, where children directly address community issues and propose solutions. A key feature is that children participated in the entire production process, including topic selection, plot development, and character design.
The book expresses children's four fundamental rights as four flames, with the protagonist Yeonhwa searching for the lost flames (rights), making the understanding and practice of children's rights accessible and approachable from a child's viewpoint.
At the activity report meeting, the Children's Participation Committee presented the completed storybook to Gunpo Mayor Ha Eun-ho and explained the children's opinions and the production process reflected in the book.
The 4th Gunpo Children's Participation Committee was formed in 2024 and has been conducting various activities over two years to incorporate children's voices into policies and projects, from policy proposals to project participation.
"This special storybook unique to Gunpo, created with direct participation from children, will become a valuable resource for spreading and promoting children's rights," Mayor Ha said. "Gunpo City will continue to provide support so that children's voices can be reflected in city policies."
