The insurrection special counsel team led by Special Counsel Cho Eun-seok plans to indict Rep. Choo Kyung-ho of the People Power Party this weekend over allegations of obstructing the National Assembly's vote to lift martial law last year.
"Rep. Choo's case is expected to be processed this weekend," Deputy Special Counsel Park Ji-young said at a briefing Thursday. "We believe sufficient evidence was presented at the warrant request stage."
The special counsel team had previously sought an arrest warrant for Rep. Choo on charges of participating in key insurrection-related activities, but the court rejected the request, citing "room for dispute regarding the charges and legal principles."
Rep. Choo is accused of obstructing other lawmakers from participating in the vote to lift the emergency martial law on December 3 last year by repeatedly changing the location of the party's general meeting. The special counsel team believes Rep. Choo intentionally disrupted the vote after receiving a phone call from former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
