President Lee Jae-myung will dispatch a presidential special envoy delegation, led by Democratic Party lawmaker Min Hong-chul, to the inauguration of Peru's new president Keiko Fujimori, to be held on the 28th.
Presidential Chief Spokesperson Kang Yu-jung announced this in a written briefing on the 24th. The delegation includes People Power Party lawmaker Kang Min-kook and Democratic Party lawmaker Lee Ki-heon. Min, who heads the delegation, chairs the Korea-Peru Parliamentary Friendship Association.
The delegation will explain the Korean government's national governance philosophy and foreign policy to the Peruvian side, and deliver President Lee's message on developing a comprehensive strategic partnership with Peru's new government, along with a personal letter from the president. The delegation will also attend inauguration-related events, including a reception for delegations from various countries hosted by Peruvian Foreign Minister Carlos Pareja and an inauguration reception hosted by new President Fujimori.
The presidential office explained that through this delegation, the government plans to convey its commitment to deepening defense and security cooperation with Peru, the largest defense industry cooperation partner in South America. It will also seek to further strengthen economic cooperation developed on the basis of the Korea-Peru Free Trade Agreement (FTA), and discuss measures to expand practical cooperation in various fields such as critical minerals and infrastructure.
Kang, the chief spokesperson, said the delegation was being sent "to strengthen the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries on the occasion of the launch of Peru's new government."
