The foreign ministers of South Korea, the United States and Japan will gather on the 22nd to discuss ways to coordinate on North Korea, taking advantage of ASEAN-related foreign ministers' meetings.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the US State Department on the 20th, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun will hold a foreign ministers' meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu in Manila, the Philippines, on the 22nd. The meeting comes about two weeks after they met in Ankara, Turkey, on the 7th on the sidelines of a NATO summit.
The three foreign ministers are expected to address the North Korean nuclear issue, economic security cooperation and the global situation at the meeting. As they are meeting on the sidelines of ASEAN meetings, there is a possibility that remarks may emerge regarding China's territorial claims in the South China Sea.
Meanwhile, Cho is scheduled to attend the Korea-ASEAN, ASEAN+3 (Korea, China, Japan), ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF), East Asia Summit (EAS) and Korea-Mekong foreign ministers' meetings held in Manila on the 22nd and 23rd.
