Daejeon, South Korea, has been confirmed as the host city for the 2029 Invictus Games, an international sports competition for wounded service members.
The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs said on the 20th that the UK-based Invictus Games Foundation announced Daejeon as the host of the 2029 Invictus Games through a unanimous decision by its board of directors. As a result, Daejeon will become the first city in Asia to host the Invictus Games, following fierce competition with rival cities San Diego in the United States and Aalborg in Denmark.
Explaining why it selected Daejeon, South Korea, as the 2029 host, the Invictus Games Foundation said, "We highly valued the level of preparation South Korea demonstrated, from the on-site inspection of the competition in February, to the bid application submitted in May, and the presentation in London in June." It added, "In particular, we positively assessed that the central government, local government, and the wounded veterans community systematically advanced the preparation for the competition based on a close cooperative system under the shared goal of the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded service members."
