Jin Young-seung, chairman of South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), has traveled to the United States for the first time since taking office to attend a trilateral chiefs of staff meeting among South Korea, the United States and Japan.
According to the JCS, Jin will attend the trilateral chiefs of defense staff meeting (Tri-CHOD) held in the United States on the 15th, local time.
The chiefs of staff from the three countries will discuss coordination against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, regional security issues and ways to strengthen trilateral security cooperation, the JCS said.
The meeting is also expected to address plans for conducting "Freedom Edge," a multi-domain exercise among South Korea, the United States and Japan.
Attending the meeting will be Dan Caine, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Uchikura Hiroaki, chief of staff of Japan's Joint Staff.
This marks the first U.S. visit and attendance at a trilateral chiefs of staff meeting for Jin, who took office last September. During his trip, Jin also plans to hold separate bilateral talks with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts.
