
President Lee Jae-myung said on the 10th, as damage from heavy rain continued to mount, "Relevant ministries and local governments should focus on preventing casualties and mobilize all available resources."
In a Facebook post that day, President Lee said, "The heaviest rain of this summer has fallen, causing a series of damages ranging from flooding to tragic loss of life." He added, "I offer my condolences to all citizens who suffered damage from the unexpected disaster."
"There is no such thing as overreaction when it comes to protecting citizens' lives," he said. "Please make every effort to ensure that no additional damage occurs and that all citizens can return to their homes as soon as possible."
President Lee added, "As climate change makes weather forecasting increasingly difficult, the government's proactive disaster response is important." He continued, "I once again urge safety for the frontline public officials leading damage prevention and recovery efforts, and I express my encouragement and gratitude."
