President Lee Jae-myung on the 10th appointed Lim Ki-geun, vice minister of the Ministry of Planning and Budget, as the new Minister of the Office for Government Policy Coordination. Chae Yi-bai, a former CEO of the Gyeonggi Job Foundation who served as a lawmaker in the 20th National Assembly, was tapped as the vice-minister-level chief of staff to the prime minister.
"Chief Lim is a top expert in the field of economic policy," Seong Ki-hong, senior presidential secretary for public relations and communication, said at a briefing at the presidential office that day. "Based on his experience coordinating complex economic policies, we expect him to reasonably mediate interests among ministries and stably manage state affairs."
Born in 1968 in Haenam, South Jeolla Province, Lim graduated from Songwon High School and Seoul National University with a degree in business administration. Since entering the civil service as an economic official through the 36th administrative examination, he has served as director general of the policy coordination bureau at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, deputy minister for budget, and commissioner of the Public Procurement Service.
The Prime Minister's Secretariat also announced that day that Chae, the new chief of staff, would be appointed effective the 11th. Born in 1975 in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, Chae graduated from Korea University with a degree in public administration. He worked as a research fellow at the Center for Good Corporate Governance and the Center for Economic Reform before serving as a lawmaker.
