President Lee Jae-myung said on the 9th that he would "work to ensure the fruits of growth lead to 'growth for all,'" responding to the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) upward revision of Korea's economic growth forecast. The IMF projected Korea's economic growth this year at 2.6%, up 0.7 percentage points from its April forecast.
Lee, who is on a state visit to Mongolia, wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "This is a 0.7 percentage point upward revision from the figure forecast in April, the largest increase among the 30 countries covered in the announcement." He added, "It is certainly good news, but I am also well aware that the public has yet to feel it."
Under the title "1.9% → 2.6%, Korea's Economic Growth Forecast Sharply Revised Upward," Lee introduced the IMF's projection in detail and pledged a recovery in the economy that people can feel. "Despite our high dependence on Middle East energy imports, strong exports of semiconductors and AI hardware lifted our economy's growth outlook," he said. "I will work even harder so that high economic growth becomes a reality and the fruits of growth are distributed evenly to all citizens, leading to 'growth for all,'" he stressed.
