Jung Chung-rae, a former leader of the Democratic Party and a contender for the party's leadership, again raised the issues of strengthening party member sovereignty and abolishing prosecutors' supplementary investigation powers on Friday, highlighting his reform agenda.
"Who led the way on the 'one member, one vote' system for a party sovereignty party? Who opposed it? Who led the way on fully abolishing supplementary investigation powers? Who opposed it? That is the question," Jung wrote on his social media that day.
He added, "Only public sentiment, only party sentiment, only the success of the Lee Jae-myung government," writing that he "will keep this in mind again and again."
The "one member, one vote" system for a party sovereignty party and the full abolition of supplementary investigation powers, which Jung mentioned, are issues that have recently emerged as points of contention during the leadership race. Jung's message is interpreted as an effort to again highlight his reform line by differentiating himself from rival contenders, including former Prime Minister Kim Min-seok and Rep. Song Young-gil.
