President Lee Jae-myung again stressed his commitment to the government's "three mega projects," saying that "results and performance that improve people's lives are more important than approval ratings."
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account Tuesday, Lee said, "A grand transformation of the national territory on the scale of dramatic upheaval is something I have long dreamed of since before taking office." He added, "Since my inauguration, we have prepared large-scale regional investment and development for balanced growth at the national level and continued cooperation with the business community, but the pace has not met expectations."
He then explained that "large-scale regional investment has become possible as the government's recent policy of concentrated investment in future advanced industries such as artificial intelligence (AI) has aligned with the structural and long-term growth of the AI chip industry."
Lee also drew a line against the view that the recently announced three mega projects are a political tool to boost his approval rating. "Approval ratings matter, but what matters more are the results and performance that improve people's lives," he said. "Approval ratings are like the wind, rising and falling, but results and performance are like mountains that do not change easily." He stressed, "It is an old belief that approval ratings naturally follow results and performance. If the three mega projects had been a political tool for managing approval ratings, we would have started them before the local elections."
Lee said, "The three mega projects for balanced development, inclusive sustainable growth, and building an irreplaceable Republic of Korea will create new hope and a future for the people and the nation." He added, "In particular, we will do everything we can to restore hope, dreams, and vitality to young people who have lost opportunities and fallen into despair."
