Han Byung-do, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said Tuesday that the party will enact a special law on mega districts encompassing regulatory exceptions and comprehensive policy support in connection with the government's "Three Mega Projects for Korea's Great Leap Forward."
"Centered on a task force (TF), we will enact a special law on mega districts that includes regulatory exceptions and comprehensive policy support," Han said at a Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly. "The central and local governments, businesses, and the National Assembly will unite as one and move as a single body for the success of these massive projects."
He stressed that the party will "also review essential linked bills, including amendments to the Framework Act on Water Management and the Water Supply and Waterworks Installation Act, for large-scale power capacity expansion and smooth industrial water supply, and accelerate securing the budget that will serve as seed money for infrastructure development."
"This is an ambitious plan for region-led growth and balanced development that will transform the paradigm of Korea's economic growth," he said. "Now it is the National Assembly's turn to provide support through swift legislation." He said the party will push for the enactment of the special law on mega districts, which includes regulatory exceptions and comprehensive policy support, as well as amendments to the Framework Act on Water Management and the Water Supply and Waterworks Installation Act for large-scale power grid expansion and smooth industrial water supply.
He also said, "We will complete all major state legislative tasks of the Lee Jae-myung administration by year-end." He added, "For the amendment to the Criminal Procedure Act, which will be the finishing touch on prosecution reform, the floor leadership, policy committee, and Legislation and Judiciary Committee will join forces to make the content substantial and the processing swift." He also said, "As a working National Assembly, we will deliver a sense of refreshment and efficacy."
