President Lee Jae-myung said Tuesday that "the decision by Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee today will lead a new leap forward for South Korea's advanced industries."
Lee made the remarks at a "National Report Meeting on the Chungcheong Region's Advanced Industry Development Vision" held in Asan, South Chungcheong Province, saying, "Samsung, SK hynix and Celltrion have announced large-scale investment plans to foster advanced industries in the Chungcheong region." Lee said, "As I listened earlier to Chairman Jay Y. Lee's words, I was reminded of the historic moment when the late Chairman Lee Byung-chul declared his entry into the semiconductor industry in Tokyo in 1983." He added, "That day's foresight created today's semiconductor powerhouse."
He continued, "The investment plans announced today do not simply mean that companies' production facilities are expanding into the Chungcheong region." He said, "They are a promise of trust to completely change the paradigm of growth and move toward a better future, and a bold declaration toward new possibilities for South Korea." He added, "Business leaders who will turn crises into opportunities through relentless challenge, universities and research institutions that serve as a solid foundation for future talent and original technology, and local governments responsible for innovation infrastructure and living conditions will, as one team, redraw South Korea's growth map."
