President Lee Jae-myung and the floor leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea held a dinner meeting and resolved to accelerate the legislative handling of the government's policy tasks in the second half of the year.
"The Democratic Party's third-term floor leadership held a closed-door dinner meeting with the president at the Blue House today," Democratic Party floor spokesperson Lee Ju-hee said in a written briefing Tuesday. "The president was delighted to meet, after a long time, colleagues who had crossed the line of fire together, and warmly congratulated the launch of the new floor leadership." Lee reportedly urged in particular that the handling of legislation related to the second-half policy tasks must be accelerated.
Democratic Party floor leader Han Byeong-do expressed gratitude for the president's recent overseas trip achievements and for the recently announced "three mega projects." He also conveyed a plan to speed up the legislation needed to support them.
The floor leaders present also paid tribute to the outstanding achievements of the president and the government over the past year, according to the briefing. "In the second year of the administration, the government and the ruling party gathered their will to unite more firmly, to expand the achievements of the first year to every corner of the Republic of Korea, and to create a turning point for the development of the people's economy," the floor spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, Lee also held a luncheon with former President Moon Jae-in on the same day. Regarding signs of internal division detected amid the recent party convention, the two reportedly gathered their opinions on national unity and agreed to work together. This marks the first time that Lee has met with former President Moon at the Blue House since taking office.
