President Lee Jae-myung will preside over ministry briefings alongside a "citizen observer group" of members of the public starting Dec. 15.
According to the presidential office Monday, Lee will receive briefings from ministries across nine sessions from Dec. 15 to 21. As his second briefing since taking office, it will cover 140 institutions, including the Office for Government Policy Coordination, 19 ministries, six offices, 18 administrations, seven commissions and affiliated public institutions.
This round of briefings focuses on reviewing the tasks each ministry has pursued since the first briefing held late last year. The sessions will discuss the implementation status of the tasks presented at that time, as well as progress on key state agendas such as structural reform, regionally led growth and national normalization.
This time, a citizen observer group of about 200 people will participate for the first time. Following Lee's opening remarks, briefings from each institution and open discussion, the observer group will directly raise questions and make proposals, conveying voices from the field. The entire process of the first briefing late last year was broadcast live.
Lee began recruiting the citizen observer group through Facebook on Monday. "This is the first ministry briefing held together by the government and the people," he said. "It is not a place to unilaterally announce achievements, but a place to verify policy achievements together with the people and discuss the future direction of state affairs."
"Based on the achievements and tasks of the past period, we will more firmly build the milestones for the future that the Republic of Korea will move toward," he said. Applications for the citizen observer group will be accepted from Monday through Dec. 6.
