The Military Manpower Administration (MMA) said Monday it will begin offering multilingual interpretation services to support conscription (enlistment) examinations for military service candidates who have difficulty communicating in Korean.
Using the interpretation infrastructure of 223 family centers and 12 multicultural family support centers nationwide, the agency plans to provide interpretation in a total of 10 languages, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai and Filipino.
In particular, the MMA said it will provide interpretation in areas where accurate communication is critical during the examination, such as medical questionnaires, disease verification and psychological testing, in order to more precisely assess candidates' health conditions.
"As the number of candidates facing difficulties during the conscription examination process due to language barriers continues to increase, we will create a fair examination environment for everyone through customized interpretation services," MMA Commissioner Hong So-young said.
