Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon said Monday that a six-month competition ban imposed on Baejae High School's baseball team was "excessive." The team was penalized for a cheer directed at players from Gwangju Ilgo, chanting the phrase "you should go to Starbucks."
In a Facebook post that day, Han said, "It was wrong to use the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement as material for jeering the opposing team in a high school baseball game." But he added, "Imposing a six-month suspension on young students is excessive."
"They are young students," he said. He added, "Choi Wook, an adult broadcaster who said on air that they should be rolled over with tanks, only apologized and is still broadcasting, and Starbucks was not suspended from business either."
