New Prime Minister Han Seong-sook said Korea's status is shifting "from a country chasing an era of great upheaval to one leading it," stressing that the government will "carry out investment in artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced industries even more boldly and actively work to rationalize expectations where innovation could face obstacles."
Han made the remarks to reporters on Monday as she reported for her first day of work at the Government Complex Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul. "The government will also move more quickly in line with this, and I will do my best in the duties assigned to me so that necessary policies can be implemented on time," she said. "I will work to ensure that these achievements permeate into people's lives and lead to opportunities for young people to grow and take a leap forward." She added, "I will make the government a solid stepping stone in building a Korea where the fruits of growth permeate down to small and medium-sized enterprises and neighborhood businesses, so that everyone can realize their potential."
On the role of prime minister, she said, "I believe this is a time when the language of the public and private sectors must move together, when the pace of the private sector and the pace of the public sector must be aligned, and when truly massive industrial policy must operate." She continued, "In that regard, having understood industry and, though for a short time, also understood the language of the public sector, I take it to mean that the government too should combine in that direction and move forward all at once."
