The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will award tribute plaques to the bereaved families of soldiers and police killed in action or in the line of duty during the Korean War, the ministry said Sunday.
The tribute plaques will be awarded to some 35,000 bereaved families of soldiers and police killed in action or in the line of duty during the Korean War.
This year, starting next month, the plaques will be awarded sequentially to 7,000 bereaved family members (those born before June 1945), in order of age starting with the eldest.
The tribute plaque consists of a medal, certificate, frame and case. The certificate reads: "The nation will forever remember the patriotic heroes who gave their lives to defend the Republic of Korea. With that heart, we dedicate this plaque."
To award the tribute plaques to bereaved families individually, the ministry plans to sign a business agreement with the Korea Post under the Ministry of Science and ICT on Monday.
