The Rebuilding Korea Party will hold a national convention on July 25 at the Suwon Convention Center in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, to elect a new party leader and supreme council members, forming a new leadership, the party said Sunday.
Candidate registration for the party leader and supreme council members will take place over two days, July 6-7. The candidate campaign period runs from July 8-25.
Ahead of the convention, the Rebuilding Korea Party will tour four regions to hold "listening" sessions. The party plans to present its vision after holding online debates and broadcast-invited debates to hear the voices of its members. Following the June 3 local elections, the party formed a national convention preparation committee chaired by Rep. Seo Wang-jin in accordance with its party constitution and bylaws, and has been discussing the tone and direction of the convention.
"This convention will form a new leadership through the election of the party leader and supreme council members, and will fully listen to members' opinions for 'self-strengthening,'" said Seo Wang-jin, chairman of the national convention preparation committee. "It will be an occasion to comfort members who have seemed somewhat dispirited since the June 3 local elections and to present the reform direction that the entire democratic reform camp should pursue."
