Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon said Saturday that "the semiconductor industry is an extremely important and core task that leads the Republic of Korea," criticizing that "it should not be used as ammunition for the Myeong-Cheong (President Lee Jae-myung and Democratic Party leader Jung Chung-rae) confrontation."
Han made the remarks while meeting with reporters at the National Assembly Museum, where he attended a publication ceremony for the memoir of Kim Deok-ryong, chairman of the Kim Young-sam Democracy Center. Regarding the government's plan to invest in a semiconductor cluster in the Honam region, he said, "Yongin and Pyeongtaek are not the limit. President Lee is deceiving the public."
He continued, "The president is doing something that should not be done. On top of that, there is no explanation as to why it should be done." He added, "There is no specific talk about how water and power supply will be resolved, nor any explanation about why Yongin and Pyeongtaek are the limit." He also pointed out that "the specific figures and objective data are the opposite of what President Lee is saying."
Meanwhile, when asked about the position of People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok, Han replied, "Hong Myung-bo at least resigned." This is interpreted as a comparison between coach Hong, who expressed his intention to resign taking responsibility for the World Cup elimination in the round of 32, and leader Jang, who has ruled out resignation calls.
