South Korea's Foreign Ministry held a forum on Wednesday with Indian companies operating in Korea, jointly organized with the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Korea, to hear their difficulties and suggestions, the ministry said.
In a welcoming address, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun noted that India's Prime Minister's Office has been holding a "Korea Business Week" since last week to directly hear the difficulties of Korean companies, as one of the follow-up measures to President Lee Jae-myung's state visit to India in April. He stressed that this forum was intended to reciprocate India's efforts, and that mutual efforts between Korea and India to support companies operating in each country have been under way since Lee's state visit to India.
Six companies, including Tata Daewoo Mobility, Tata Consultancy Services Asia, and Air India, attended the event. The companies expressed their appreciation for the Korean government's interest, introduced the status of their domestic operations, and raised difficulties related to their business activities in Korea along with policy-related suggestions.
Lee Min-kyung, director-general of the Foreign Ministry's Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau, said the ministry would consult with relevant agencies to seek solutions, and that it hopes the successful operation of Indian companies in Korea will lead to more Indian investment in the country.
This was the first forum the Foreign Ministry has held for Indian business executives operating in Korea, and the ministry said it has also been holding forums with Korean companies operating in India since 2024.
