Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon assessed the background of his election victory on Sunday, saying, "Amid the regression of conservatism, there was a spirit of the times calling for me to show that I could defeat the Jang Dong-hyuk leadership."
Appearing on KBS Radio that day, Han continued his sharp criticism aimed at People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk. Regarding Jang's suggestion that he would discipline lawmakers, Han drew a line, saying, "It's the same as coach Hong Myung-bo or chairman Chung Mong-gyu refusing to resign and instead disciplining those below them." He added, "It's not something that will work." He continued, "The verdict on Jang is already in, and there is no one who would fear such threats. It will only become a laughingstock, the kind that makes people say, 'That's not normal.' As a conservative politician, it's truly pitiful to watch."
On the issue of his reinstatement to the People Power Party, Han said, "I think only the procedures remain." He noted, "When I was expelled, my first words were, 'I will definitely return.'" He hit out directly, saying, "Some, like Jang Dong-hyuk and the party leadership faction, will try to block my entry, but their unreasonable behavior is heading toward its end." He added, "The proportion of party sentiment that the leadership faction can sway will keep getting smaller."
