Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Hyun-jung criticized the People Power Party for going on the offensive over a large-scale Honam investment by "Samjeon-nix" (Samsung Electronics and SK hynix), calling it "fourth-rate politics that performs rituals praying for the nation to collapse."
In a Facebook post Thursday, Kim said, "If equating the Lee Jae-myung administration's industrial policy for national development and corporate growth with the crimes of the Park Geun-hye administration, which extorted money from companies, isn't fourth-rate politics, then what is it?"
"Semiconductors are the heart of the Korean economy," she said. "Rather than ending this boom as a temporary stock market rally, we must grow our semiconductor industry to the very top of the global market and make it the engine of balanced national development, so that all of Korea can thrive."
She emphasized, "Making that very vision a reality is the semiconductor mega-project of the Lee Jae-myung popular sovereignty government."
Referring to People Power Party lawmaker Ahn Cheol-soo and independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, Kim said, "They are making absurd comparisons to Park Geun-hye's Mir Foundation and K-Sports Foundation." She added, "This is exactly fourth-rate politics that performs rituals praying for the nation to collapse."
"Please stop the unproductive criticism that doesn't resonate with the public at all, and now think harder about what to do for the nation and the people," she said, urging, "Let's do first-rate politics."
The opposition is criticizing companies pursuing a semiconductor cluster in Honam, the Democratic Party's support base, as making investments under pressure from the government. Ahn Cheol-soo, a People Power Party lawmaker, referenced the state affairs manipulation scandal during the Park Geun-hye administration, saying, "It is no exaggeration to say that the conduct of President Lee and Policy Office Chief Kim Yong-beom is the conduct of offenders caught in the act of abuse of power."
