Moon Jin-seok, a lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Korea, sharply criticized fellow lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, saying, "If you want to do politics that contributes even a little to the lives of the people, I hope you first fix that narrow-minded perspective." The rebuke came after Han compared Samsung Electronics and SK hynix's investment in a "second semiconductor cluster" in Gwangju to the Mir Foundation, which was created under coercion by the Park Geun-hye administration.
According to the Democratic Party on Thursday, Moon wrote on Facebook, "Lawmaker Han has no concept or philosophy regarding balanced national development," adding, "He is also showing the image of the worst kind of politician, one who thinks only of his own political interests without even understanding the trends in the semiconductor market."
Moon emphasized that the semiconductor investments by Samsung Electronics and SK hynix were the companies' own choice. "The semiconductor market today is being treated as a strategic asset, going beyond a simple supply-demand curve," he said. "Since supply shortages will continue going forward, expanding facilities should naturally be pursued quickly. That is why the industry has been reviewing additional expansion and plans to announce the optimal location after considering various circumstances."
Moon continued, "Lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, a former prosecutor, is so accustomed to intimidating people in his daily life that he must see this kind of large-scale investment as something brought about by intimidation," and rebuked him, saying, "A politician who views the sky through a tube — a 'gwanjunggyucheon' (seeing heaven through a tube) — cannot become a representative of the people." He also said, "The intimidation that Lawmaker Han Dong-hoon speaks of is the behavior of Yoon Suk-yeol, who, after failing to win the Busan Expo bid, took busy company chairmen to a market and had them do a tteokbokki mukbang." He added, "Lawmaker Han Dong-hoon, who was justice minister at the time, did you ever tell Yoon Suk-yeol not to abuse his power?"
